Asian ’guest-workers’ in Hungary

On Index, Péter Klemensits reports that Hungarian employers are becoming increasingly accustomed to hiring Asian manpower as their first impressions have been extremely positive. While Filipino guest workers in the country number over ten thousand, the new wave of Thai citizens given work permits by the authorities is slowly catching up. They make about twice as much money as they did in Thailand, although significantly less than they would in Germany, he writes. Hungarian employers offer them free housing and transport, however. Klemensits quotes experts who say that Thai workers are extremely resilient to repetitive work and their friendly manners are appreciated by Hungarians. He expects tens of thousands to come to Hungary over the next few years.
