Világgazdaság

A business daily, which is also called „the green newspaper”, due to the fact that it has been printed on green paper since it was first published in 1969. This was the first newspaper to be allowed direct access to Western news agencies during the Communist era, while the rest of the Hungarian media received news from abroad filtered by the official news agency. Its relatively free character was tolerated because Világgazdaság (World Economy) was read mainly by business executives, and its language was practically incomprehensible for the general public. Világgazdaság gave birth to Heti (weekly) Világgazdaság or HVG, in 1979 .
