Catholic Primate among Fidesz faithful at Kötcse

Left-wing commentators lambast Cardinal Erdő, the head of Hungary’s Catholic Church attending the annual Fidesz gathering at Kötcse where PM Orbán drew up his plans for the immediate future.

In Népszava, Miklós Hargitai describes Fidesz as a group of people who have precious little respect for the Commandments, namely the ones about stealing and adultery. On this basis, he finds it outrageous for the Primate of Hungary to attend the event of such a party, rather than holding the powerful to account for their sins. ‘Gather thistles and expect prickles’, he warns the Cardinal.

Mandiner features a Facebook post by former left-wing TV journalist László Juszt who writes that the Cardinal is never a private person when appearing in public. He deserves no respect at all after attending the gathering of a political party, he adds. What will Cardinal Erdő say to the Catholic believers who do not support PM Orbán? Juszt asks.
