Opposition landscape after defeat

April 12th, 2022

Neither a pro-government nor a centrist pundit believe the opposition is likely to honestly investigate the causes of their electoral defeat, and thus will miss yet another chance to reconsider their strategy.

Magyar Nemzet’s Levente Sitkei predicts that opposition politicians will become ‘zombies’ after their devastating defeat in the Parliamentary election. The pro-government pundit suspects that after recovering from the post-election shock, the leaders of the opposition will continue as if nothing happened, and try to survive until the next election, hoping that Fidesz will lose popularity.

On Azonnali, Péter Aradi finds it outrageous that opposition leaders launched a nasty blame game rather than an honest soul-searching effort  after their crushing defeat. As long as opposition leaders deny their responsibility, blame each other and the sloping political field which admittedly favours Fidesz, they will miss the chance to woo even those voters who are dissatisfied with the current government, Aradi thinks.
