Liberal values seen as primary targets of Islamism

A conservative commentator contends that the mass immigration of Muslims to Europe threatens not only Christian and Jewish lifestyles, but also liberal values including equality and freedom.

In Magyar Hírlap, Ervin Nagy claims that liberals should be the first to fear the ‘Muslim invasion’ of Europe. Although jihadists often target Christians and Jews, the conservative commentator writes, despite their personal hatred towards individuals of different religions, Islamist radicals see secular individualistic values as their main enemies. Nagy argues that ‘Muslim people do not believe in the equality of human beings’ and reject basic Enlightenment norms. Thus, he asserts, the uncontrolled immigration of Muslims to Europe is a grave threat not only to Christian and Jewish lifestyles, but also to every European who believes in freedom and equality. In conclusion, he suggests that stopping the mass immigration of Muslims should be a common aim for all those who embrace European values, regardless of their ideological preferences.
