Pro-government ‘Peace March’ on national holiday

March 15th, 2018

A prominent pro-government columnist explains that he and his friends have called for a pro-government demonstration in order to save Hungary from the opposition and the threat they believe it represents to national identity.

In his Magyar Idők editorial, Zsolt Bayer, a founding Fidesz member and one of the organisers of the previous pro-government Peace Marches sees Hungary’s society as split into two irreconcilable parts. The opposition dreams about a world without nations, religions and even sexual identities, while the government side intends to leave Hungary to the future generation as it was inherited from their fathers and mothers. If the opposition wins the election on 8 April, the changes they will promote will be irreversible, Bayer warns. It is in order to prevent that from happening, he writes, that leading government supporters have called people from throughout Hungary and beyond to walk to Kossuth square in front of the Parliament building and listen to PM Viktor Orbán’s address on the anniversary of the 1848 Hungarian revolution.
